PromoSalud Bridging Gaps for Better Health Access and Awareness

Amplifying Voices for Equitable
Healthcare Policies and training Community Health Workers/Promotores to support our community in achieving health.

PromoSalud

Have questions about healthcare? We can help.

PromoSalud, previously known as Latino Healthcare Forum (LHCF) is a nonprofit organization that serves primarily the Hispanic/Latino community in Central Texas.

Through our unique combination of community health worker certification, outreach, community health education, medical research studies, advocacy programs, and many other programs, PromoSalud simultaneously eliminates the health barriers that affect Latinos at the local level.

In April 2024, with an eye on the future and reaffirming its commitment to our communities, the LHCF changed its name to PromoSalud to highlight the name of our signature program.

For 14 years, LHCF has been the connection between our community and the healthcare system through the use of the community health worker model, and PromoSalud will continue to break every barrier that keeps Latinos from living a healthy life.

As we continue telling our story and writing our future, we will champion our families and communities in their daily struggle to gain the right to health and healthcare.

Our initial purpose in starting the Latino HealthCare Forum was to provide a vehicle for the community to become informed about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and its various provisions.

A group of highly involved community members started discussing the upcoming changes in the healthcare system nationally. Soon after, they realized that if they had trouble understanding it and making it work for the community, then others would be having the same issue. So that’s why the Latino HealthCare Forum got started– to help others understand, learn, and advocate for their own and the community’s health.

Our Programs

As a premier "Champion of Coverage," we are proud to serve our community and use best practices to fulfill our mission to educate our community about affordable health insurance.

The Latino Healthcare Forum Calendario Comunitario initiative provides community members access to events and resources. The focus of the campaign is on Hispanics, including the Spanish-speaking community.

The LHCF's core competency is its PromoSalud program, which trains members of the community to become community health workers or “promotores de salud.”

The Latino HealthCare Forum serves as the delivery vehicle for researching public policies and other special initiatives in the Austin area.
